SAFETY & ETIQUETTE
1. Responsibilities
Guests are responsible for using the facilities safely and following the guidance outlined below.
An on-site host will welcome you and provide an introduction to the facilities. Once your session begins, you are responsible for using the sauna, cold plunge and outdoor areas safely and appropriately.
By attending Essex Sauna, you agree to use the facilities at your own risk.
2. Medical Guidance
Use of the sauna and cold plunge is undertaken entirely at your own risk.
If you are in any doubt about your suitability for heat or cold exposure, you should consult your GP before booking. This is particularly important if any of the following apply (this list is not exhaustive):
History of heart attack or stroke
Cardiovascular conditions
High or low blood pressure
Epilepsy
Asthma or breathing conditions
Arterial disease
Joint or muscle injury
Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or surgical implants
Chronic underlying medical conditions
Undiagnosed symptoms
Use of prescription medication
Sauna and cold water immersion are not permitted during pregnancy. You are, however, welcome to enjoy the relaxation areas.
By booking, you confirm that you and all members of your group have considered this guidance and agree to our Terms & Conditions. Essex Sauna cannot accept responsibility for medical conditions that may be affected by heat or cold exposure.
3. General Safety
Exposure to hot surfaces, heated equipment, wet and potentially slippery areas, open flames and outdoor conditions is undertaken at your own risk.
Guests must:
Avoid touching the sauna stove, hot rocks, flue, fire pit or any heated surfaces
Take care on wet decking, grass or gravel surfaces
Wear appropriate footwear when moving between areas
Remain hydrated before, during and after your session
Exit the sauna or cold plunge immediately if feeling lightheaded, dizzy or unwell
Alcohol or intoxicating substances must not be consumed prior to or during use of the facilities.
Glass bottles or glassware are not permitted within the sauna, cold plunge or surrounding areas.
Essex Sauna accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property. Please leave valuables at home.
4. Sauna & Cold Plunge Etiquette
To maintain a safe and comfortable environment:
Always sit on a towel inside the sauna
Limit sauna sessions to approximately 10–15 minutes at a time
Limit cold plunge immersion to approximately 3–5 minutes at a time
Pour water gently onto the sauna rocks — never throw or dump water
Only use the water provided for the sauna stove
Respect the space and those within your group
Guests are free to move at their own pace. There is no requirement to use the cold plunge.
Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the sauna or cold plunge.
5. Fire Pit & Outdoor Areas
If using the fire pit:
Only use the wood and fire lighting materials provided
Do not leave the fire unattended
Maintain a safe distance from open flames
Ensure the fire is safely extinguished before leaving
Your on-site host can provide guidance if required.
Essex Sauna is located within a countryside setting. Please remain within designated areas at all times.
6. Waivers & Acknowledgement
All guests may be required to complete a waiver prior to their session.
By attending, you acknowledge that sauna bathing, cold water immersion and outdoor fire use carry inherent risks and that you voluntarily accept those risks.
7. Emergencies
In the event of a fire, evacuate the area immediately and call 999.
In the event of a medical emergency, notify your on-site host immediately. Your host will contact emergency services and provide assistance as required.
